What are you thinking about right now? Maybe you are pondering over a problem in your life and trying to find solutions. Perhaps you are grieving and thinking of someone that you loved dearly or a life that might have been. It is possible to sink into feelings of deep despair and hopelessness if you are not thinking on positive, encouraging things.
The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:1-2, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Instead of focusing on our circumstances, we can focus on the wonderful promises God has for us in His Word and on the home we have waiting for us in heaven.
Philippians 4:8 urges us, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." We do not want to glorify our problems more than we glorify God. We should be thanking God for being our waymaker and provider. Think of all the good things that God has done for you through the years and worship Him for being faithful.
Did you know that thinking about God can bring you peace? Isaiah 26:3 tells us, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." If we keep God and His promises close in our thoughts, we will have peace to know that He is with us and will work out all things for our good (Romans 8:28). Paul reminds us in Romans 8:6, "For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace." Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
We are commanded in the scripture, "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." We can love God through our mind!
Paul even took it further in 1 Corinthians 2:16 when he said, "For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ."
We can think about God, but did you realize that God also thinks about us? Jeremiah 29:11 is a great example that states, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end." The psalmist declares in Psalm 139: 16-17, "Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!" God loves us and cares about every aspect of our lives. He has planned a grand design for each life.
Think on God and all of His wonderous works. Let your meditation be on the good things of God and the promises that He has given You in His word. Let the positivity of God's Word drown out the negativity that is trying to take over your mind.
