Order My Steps

It is fun to walk barefoot through the sand at the seashore. As you walk, your feet leave an impression in the sand, a footprint. By looking behind you, you can see how many steps you have taken.

Some people use an app or a fitness watch to track how many steps they take in a day. The Lord knows every step you will take in your entire life. Job 31:4 says, "Doth not He see my ways, and count all my steps?" God's knowledge is so far above ours that He can count every hair on our head and every step we take!

Did you know that the Lord orders your steps? Psalm 37:23 declares, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." Proverbs 16:9 says, "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps." Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." It is comforting to know that the Lord is watching over us always.

The Lord helps us take the steps we need to take, even when circumstances are difficult to maneuver. Psalm 18:36 encourages, "Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip." Psalm 37:31 assures, "The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide." Proverbs 4:12 states, "When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble." The Lord is faithful to His people.

Sometimes we hear of a son "following in his father's footsteps." Maybe the dad was a doctor, and the son became a doctor as well. As Christians, we can follow in the footsteps of the faithful. Romans 4:12 says, "And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised." We can take steps of faith each day, even when we can't see the whole picture before us. 2 Corinthians 5:7 declares, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." I can't think of any greater footsteps to follow than those of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:21 says, " For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps."

I will conclude with the words of Psalm 119:133, " Order my steps in Thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me."
