The Way

I do not always pay attention when we are in the car going out of town. I do not memorize every highway for how we are getting to our destination. My husband, on the other hand, is great with directions and details for traveling. The point is, when you are going somewhere, you have to know the way to get there.
If you would like to make heaven your eternal destination, you have to know the way to get there also. The way to heaven is clearly defined in the scripture. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:1-6, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto Him, Lord, we know not whither Thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." I am glad that Thomas asked Jesus for clarification during this conversation. It left no room for questions or confusion. Jesus clearly said, "I am the way."
The only way to get to our Father in heaven is through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Peter echoed the same thing in Acts 4:10-12 when he said, "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Whom ye crucified, Whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Salvation comes through Jesus Christ and belief in what He did for us. Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Peter said on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:38), "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
After we have accepted Jesus Christ's free gift of salvation, He will guide us in the way He wants us to go. He led the children of Israel through the wilderness by a cloud and a pillar of fire. Deuteronomy 1:33 states, "Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day." God gives believers the Holy Ghost to guide them today. As Jesus said in John 16:13, "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come."
God knows us and our ways. Psalm 1:6 declares, "For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish." In Proverbs 15:19, Solomon says, "The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain." Psalm 139:24 says, "And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
The next time you are traveling and you see a "one way" street sign, think about Jesus Christ. He is the "one way" to get to heaven!
