The Love of God

As I was thinking about the subject of the next blog post, God directed me to tell you of His love for you.

God's love is something that cannot be measured or explained by human standards. It is a fierce, intense, and unconditional love. In fact, love is the very essence of who God is. The Bible clearly states that God is love in 1 John 4:16, "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."

God loved you so much that He came and died so that you could spend eternity with Him in heaven! 1 John 4:9-10 explains it this way, "This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." Could you imagine giving your only son as a sacrifice for the sins of the ungodly? That is exactly what God did for us! Paul writes in Galatians 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Jesus paid the ultimate price for us because of His great love!

God loved you enough to make you His child! The Bible says in 1 John 3:1, "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him." Your Father is so great that He created the universe and everything in it, yet He made a way for you to be His child!

God's love is not like human love. The love of God is not fickle--here today and gone tomorrow. His love is steadfast and enduring. The psalmist puts it this way in Psalm 136:26, "Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever." Deuteronomy 7:9 says, "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments." A thousand generations is a long time, but the love of God will last throughout eternity! Isaiah reminds us in chapter 54 verse 10 that God's love is unfailing by declaring, "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you."

We will not be separated from the love of God. Paul stated it so beautifully in Romans 8:37-39, "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." John 10:28 also offers a glimpse into the love of God by saying, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand." God did not save you to lose you. He loves you, and you are in His hands!

The love of God is not able to be contained in a short blog post. I certainly hope this little reminder will be a blessing to you. Whenever you are tempted to think that nobody really loves you, please remember that Jesus thought you were to die for!
