Do you love to sing? I do. When the right song comes on, it can change the atmosphere from sad to hopeful or from happy to joyful.
Did you know that songs of praise can bring God near to us? Psalm 22:3 states, "But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel." I have personally experienced this a few times. I have been listening to a song or singing about the Lord and His Spirit came down in the car and overwhelmed me where all I could do was cry out and praise Him. There is nothing like the presence of God being so near to you. It is a wonderful and awesome experience to have.
In Psalm 95:1, the psalmist declares, "O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation." You may say, "Well, I'm not a good singer. I can't carry a tune in a bucket." That is OK. The above verse said to, "Make a joyful noise." It didn't say the song had to be perfectly on key and rhythm. God gave us all different talents, but He loves to hear all of His children sing unto Him with praise.
The Bible says that all the earth should sing the praises of God. Psalm 66:4 states, "All the earth bows down to You; they sing praise to You, they sing the praises of Your name." Psalm 98 says, Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music." Psalm 96:1-2 puts in this way, "Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day."
We rejoice in God by praising His name through song, but did you realize that God rejoices over His children with singing? Zephaniah 3:17 says, "The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will rejoice over you with singing." That is very powerful!
I know from experience that it is not always easy to sing and praise the Lord when things are not going the way you want them to in your life. I have found that God uses certain songs during these difficult moments to minister to my spirit exactly what I need. Even if you are not the one singing, listening to these songs about Jesus can encourage and lift you up out of a dark place.
Be encouraged and sing beloved child of God!
