Purpose

ree

In the wee hours of the morning, a young mother is about to deliver her first child, but something is wrong. The doctors won't tell her what the complication is, but they tell her husband that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby's neck. The child could suffocate. Her husband begins desperate prayer. When he comes back after prayer, the cord has slipped off of the baby's neck, and everything is going well. God had a purpose for that baby to be born and live here on this earth. That baby was me.

God has a purpose for everything that happens. Sometimes we wonder what our purpose is, and why we are here on this earth. Why did God make you a human instead of a majestic horse or a roaring lion? God has a job for you to do here for Him.

A famous verse about purpose is found in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Everything happens according to the laws of God and in accordance with His time. I have learned in my life that God's time is very different than my time. I wanted things to happen in my life years ago, but I am still waiting for God to say, "OK, now is the time."

There was a purpose for Jesus Christ to be here on earth. Ephesians 3:11 says, “According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 1 John 3:8 declares, “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Praise God! Jesus Christ also came to make a way of salvation for us.

God had a purpose in calling you to be His child, even before you were born.

2 Timothy 1:9 declares, “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began." Ephesians 1:11 reads, “In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will."

God will work everything out for your good because of His purpose. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”

The next time you are feeling down or worthless, just think about God having a purpose for your life. You are in God's hands, and He will perform the purpose He has for your life!
