There is a song titled The Truth, by Megan Woods. There is a line in this song that says, "I don't belong to the lies; I belong to You." That particular lyric stood out to me.
How many times have I believed the lies of the devil instead of believing the Word of God? Doubt has often clouded my mind when I was in desperate need of help from God. Why would I doubt the only One Who could truly make a difference in my situation? It was because I looked at the situation instead of focusing on what God's Word said about my circumstances.
The Bible clearly tells us that satan is a liar and a deceiver. Jesus said in John 8:44, "You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies." Revelation 12:9 says, "And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and satan, the deceiver of the whole world--he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him."
Clearly, satan's goal is not to heal or help anyone. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour." Satan is trying to sow seeds of doubt to keep you from obtaining God's promises.
James 4:7 tells us to, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Don't give in to the lies satan is trying to whisper in your ear. Instead, give your whole heart and mind to meditate solely on the Word of God.
Just as Jesus quoted scripture to defeat the devil in Matthew chapter 4, we can do the same thing to defeat satan in this day. If you get prayed for and you see no immediate change in your situation, the devil will try to say that God didn't answer. You can continue in faith by remembering the Word of God that says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." You can keep claiming that God has touched you, even though you do not physically see the results yet. We can also claim the promise in Isaiah 53:5, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed." The psalmist declares in Psalm 34 verse 19, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all." There are many beautiful verses in the Bible that can reassure us in difficult times.
Have your ever noticed that God's Word is more positive to His followers than satan's is? God promises life. Following satan ends up in death (eternal separation from God and a place in the lake of fire). God promises a home in heaven and eternal life with peace and no more pain or crying for His people. As for me, I choose to believe God's Word instead of satan's lies.
I know that I am a sinner saved by grace. God is continuing to work on me every day to make me what He wants me to be. I may make mistakes and falter, but I am still a child of God. Children of God can, "Come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16) Don't ever let satan tell you that you are not a child of God or that God's promises are not for you. You don't belong to the lies; you belong to God!
Keep pressing on in faith dear brothers and sisters. Faith in God's promises will truly bring about a difference in our lives.
