Have you ever been down to nothing? You wonder how you can pay all the bills, buy enough groceries, and put gas in the car to get to work? It is hard living paycheck to paycheck. I want to encourage you; God will provide for all of your needs.
There is a wonderful song by Passion that is titled, "The Lord Will Provide." A line from that song says, "Everything I need, my Father has it." The psalmist reminds us in Psalm 50:10-12, "For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof." Our Father owns everything; He made everything. Another line from this song says, "I know my God's not empty-handed; He gives us blessings upon blessings." God has the ability to meet every need that you have. Philippians 4:19 says, "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
A beautiful story of God's provision is found in 2 Kings 4:1-7, "A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” This poor lady was about to lose her sons, but God provided a way for her debt to be paid in full and gave her money to spare! That's how my God works!
Another story of God's provision is found is 1 Kings 17:12-16, when Elijah was speaking with a widow woman, "And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which He spake by Elijah." God provided everything this widow needed to keep her family alive through the time of famine.
When the children of Israel were journeying in the wilderness, they had no food or water. God provided manna and quail for them to eat. He also provided water out of a rock for them to drink.
Ask God for what you need. In Matthew 7:11, Jesus says, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?"
Keep Christ the center of your life. Matthew 6:30-33, "Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Consider giving to others, even if it's the gift of your time or encouragement. Luke 6:38, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
God is more than able to meet every need that you have. Just keep trusting and believing in Him and His promises!
