Delight is a word that can be used as a noun or a verb. According to Webster, as a noun, delight means, "a high degree of gratification or pleasure: joy; extreme satisfaction; something that gives great pleasure." As a verb, delight means, "to take great pleasure; to give keen enjoyment."
What is something that delights you? I for one am delighted when the weekend rolls around and I am off of work for a couple days. Vacations and special occasions are also sources of delight.
We can delight in God and His word. The Bible commands us in Psalm 37:4, "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." God rewards those who take pleasure in His Word and hold on to His promises. Psalm 1:2 says, "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Our mind should be thinking on God's Word and it should be a source of pleasure for our souls. Psalm 40:8 asserts, "I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart."Psalm 94:19 declares, "In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul." Psalm 119:16, 24 "I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors."
We can delight in God and His word, but God also delights. Proverbs 11:20 says, "They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are His delight." Proverbs 12:22 states, "Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight." Proverbs 15:8 declares, "The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is His delight." God Himself delights in our prayers! Jeremiah 9:24 says, "But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD."
I definitely want to live a life that will bring delight to my Lord. I want to take pleasure in God's word and in His Will for my life. How about you?
