Christian Benefits

When someone is interviewing for a new job, they generally have a few questions to ask the interviewer. One of those questions that comes to the forefront is, "What type of benefits does your company offer its employees?" Jobs that include paid holidays, sick time, health insurance, and retirement benefits are desirable. Being a Christian has benefits that far surpass anything an earthly employer can give. What are some Christian benefits?

One benefit a Christian has is peace. They have peace with God. Romans 5:1 says, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." They have peace that all of their sins are forgiven and that they are not condemned. This peace is found in Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Christians have peace that no matter what situation they are facing, God will work it out for their good according to Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."

Another benefit Christians enjoy is joy. Psalm 16:11 reads, "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." The joy of the Lord even gives strength to a Christian. (Nehemiah 8:10).

A company here on earth may offer health insurance so that you can see a doctor. God's benefit program includes healing. Psalm 103: 2-3 says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases."

Some companies may offer life insurance, but eternal life is a great benefit that Christians have. John 3:16 reads, " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Many employers only pay part of the premiums for certain benefits; the employees have to pay the rest. I'm so thankful that Jesus paid it all! When He died on the cross, He said, "It is finished" (John 19:30). He had paid the full price for our redemption. Hebrews 10:10 says, “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” The gift of salvation is free! Romans 5:18 reads, "Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." Revelation 22:17 says, "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."

An employer will offer an hourly rate or a salary. Many people are living from paycheck to paycheck, or on a check that is not meeting all their needs. Christians have the benefit of God's provision. Philippians 4:19 asserts, "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

An employer has the right to terminate your job at will. They can downsize the company and lay people off. They do not even have to give you a reason for letting you go. Christians have the benefit of knowing that God will always be there for them. This assurance is found in Hebrews 13:5, "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

Things are always changing in the field I work in. People come and go. Insurance premiums rise. New programs are implemented. Christians have the benefit of an unchanging God on their side. Hebrews 13:8 declares, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

How often does a Christian receive benefits? The answer is found is Psalm 68:19, "Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah." Christians receive benefits each and every day.

Just take a moment to reflect on how blessed you are to be a Christian, and enjoy all the benefits that God has given you today!
