Sometimes as we get older, it is harder to read small print. There are a few ways we remedy this problem. Some people use reading glasses to make the print appear larger. Others use a magnifying glass to enlarge the print. Both solutions offer success, at least for a while.
According to Oxford Languages, when we magnify something, we make it appear larger than it really is. This holds true in our daily lives, not just in reading fine print. If we continually magnify our problems and trials, we are making them bigger than they really are. Magnifying the negative can lead to feelings of despair and hopelessness. Our current circumstances are only a season in our lives. Things can change for the better in an instant. It may seem that your whole world is falling apart today, but a breakthrough could be on its way tomorrow. To use a phrase from Psalm 30:5, "Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."
Peace and joy can come in the midst of adversity when we magnify God instead of magnifying our problems. Magnifying God makes Him appear larger than your problems. There is no way that we can make God appear larger than He really is. All of space and time cannot contain Him. He is all-powerful and all-knowing. He is omnipresent and unlimited in His capabilities.
Oxford Languages says that magnify means to glorify, praise, bless and worship. We can magnify God through song, prayer, praise and worship, or by meditating on His goodness. Psalm 34:3 says, "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together." Psalm 69:30 declares, "I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving."
An interesting discovery was made as I researched the word magnify in the Bible. I also found that God can magnify people. Not that he worships people, but He makes us appear bigger than we really are. We were born in sin. God did not have to give us the time of day--yet He chose to become flesh Himself and die on the cross so that we could be with Him in Heaven! Job said , "What [is] man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?" (Job 7:17)
Hopefully, you have gained encouragement through this simple blog post. I hope you leave with a determination to magnify God instead of your problems. I also desire that you realize how much God truly loves you. Have a blessed week!
