What are you afraid of? Heights, snakes, enclosed spaces, poverty, etc.? We all have personal fears that we struggle with. Each of us finds different things challenging. What scares you may not be a fear that I have. However, there is an answer to every fear that we face in this life.
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. The Bible says in Isaiah 41:13, "For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." We can have peace when we face our fears because God promised to be with us always. He even promised to hold our hand, just like we parents do to comfort our own children. He promised to help us thru every situation in our lives. We also do not have to be fearful because we know who God is, and that He is in control of everything. He is faithful to keep the promises he has made to us in His word.
Jesus says in Luke 12:32, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” Because God Himself took care of our sins on Calvary, and we accepted that gift, we do not have to be afraid of anyone or anything taking away our salvation. We know that ultimately, we have the assurance that we will be with Him in Heaven someday. Our salvation is secure, so we do not have to live in fear of not making it into Heaven.
Jesus also told us in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Jesus Himself left us His peace so that we would not have to be afraid. He did not want us to live a life filled with fear, so He made a way for us by giving us His peace. What a thoughtful God!
One of the most prominent verses in the Bible about fear is in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Fear can drive you crazy if you let it get a tight grip on your life. Fear will keep you from leaving your house because you are scared that something bad might happen. Fear will keep you from succeeding because you fear failure.
It is important to remember that God has given us peace, power, love, and a sound mind. He wants us to trust Him and His word. He wants us to have peace, even in the most difficult moments of our lives. He is always with us and always faithful to His promises.
Fear not, child of God!
